The Little Shell Tribal Council has collaborated with the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History on the repatriation of the remains of a Little Shell child. Today marks the return of this ancestor to the Little Shell Tribe, who will hold a traditional reburial ceremony to properly lay the child to rest. This is a solemn event, but the Tribal Council is grateful for the opportunity to honor the child’s spirit with a respectful, traditional burial.

Members of the Little Shell Tribe are invited to conduct ceremonies and visit with the child at the Little Shell Tribal Elder Center, located at 1529 Stuckey Road, Great Falls, MT. The visitation and ceremonies can be conducted from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The reburial ceremony will take place at the First People Buffalo Jump State Park, situated at 342 Ulm-Vaughn Road, Ulm, MT 59485. If you wish to attend the reburial, please be at the visitor center by 1:30 pm for escort to the burial site.

The Little Shell Tribal Council remains deeply committed to the protection and repatriation of ancestral remains. The treatment of these remains is not only a matter of cultural sensitivity but also of profound spiritual significance. The Tribal Council will continue to ensure that our ancestors are honored and respected through ongoing efforts in repatriation and proper burial practices.
